About Us

COPE is a grassroots effort built upon the concept of “neighbors helping neighbors” to engage communities in emergency preparedness education, advocacy, and planning. COPE stands for Communities Organized to Prepare for Emergencies, and we foster community preparedness in coordination with public safety agencies, non-profits, and non-governmental agencies. The Mill Creek COPE is one of over 40 COPE groups in Sonoma County, California. To learn more about other local COPE groups and activities, visit the Northern Sonoma County COPE website.

Work on your Defensible Space
- Remove dry/flammable vegetation/chips from the perimeter
- Fill your water tanks
- Make sure your reflective signs are up and visible

Get Connected
- Know who your COPE leads are. They might be trying to reach out to you to confirm your evacuation status. To learn who your Neighborhood Lead is, visit the 'Get in Touch' page).
- Make sure your COPE lead has your most up-to-date contact info
- Join your Zone GroupMe and/or email group to get updates
- Sign up for notifications from Nixle and the WatchDuty application.

Have an Evacuation Plan ready
- Have your Go Bag and SD Mailbox Evacuation tags ready
- Know the main Evacuation Routes (ER) and any Alternate ER protocols
- Have a plan about where you’ll head & how to coordinate COPE duties
- Have your chainsaws sharp and ready with gas and oil
- Ready your hoses, generators, and sprinkler systems
